Maura Marx is a Fellow and Executive Director of the Open Knowledge Commons (OKC),a nonprofit organization that works with libraries, archives and museums (LAMS) to help create the broadest possible public access to knowledge. OKC's efforts are dedicated to bringing vast quantities of archived paper materials in LAMS online by catalyzing large-scale digitization collaborations among institutions. OKC founded the Medical Heritage Library in 2010.

Since January 2011, Maura is also Director of the Digital Public Library of America Secretariat, the operations center of a project, based at the at the Berkman Center, to create a national digital library strategy. Her current work focuses on creating a distributed network of data hubs that feed cultural heritage and other types of data into the DPLA.

Previously, she founded the digital library program at the Boston Public Library (BPL) and was responsible for its dedication to open principles. While at BPL she served on the inaugural Board of the Digital Commonwealth, the first Massachusetts statewide digital library. Her interests are in cultural heritage, collaboration and the promotion of all types of open knowledge. Before coming to Boston she worked in the rare book trade, museums and the film business in Austria, Switzerland and the UK. She has a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. from Middlebury College and an M.S.L.I.S. from Simmons College.
